FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Sheriff Louis Ackal advises that on November 1, 2014 at approximately 1:33 a.m. dispatchers with the Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office 911 Center received a call from Iberia Medical Center advising that a one year old child had been abandoned at the entrance of the hospital. Deputies and Detectives with the Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office arrived on scene and were later able to determine that the child had been abducted by his stepfather, Wayne Ross Maitland DOB 02/07/1986, out of Liberty County, Texas, on October 31, 2014 at approximately 8:00 p.m. Friday evening. Deputies learned that Maitland intentionally left the child at Iberia Medical Center and then fled the area. Deputies advised that the child was unharmed and has since been returned to the custody of the mother.
Maitland is described as a white male, approximately 5′ 11″ tall weighing 168 pounds, having brown hair and green eyes. He was also last seen wearing a grey t-shirt and black shorts. Maitland is said to have several tattoos including “Addidas” on his upper left arm, an Aquarius sign on his upper right arm with the letters WRM above the tattoo. The vehicle Maitland is possibly driving is described as a Black 2006 Infinity M35 with Texas license plate DKS9210. Maitland also warrants for his arrest on two counts of kidnapping out of Texas. Detectives are asking if anyone has information on the possible location of Wayne Ross Maitland within Iberia Parish to contact the Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office at (337) 369-3711.
